    How it works

The Original Herbal Peel is a blend of dried, crushed herbs that Karen massages into the skin for around ten minutes and leaves on. There are no acids or chemicals in it. The herb particles bring blood to the surface and prompt the skin to shed its top layers over the next few days.

By day five the old surface has lifted away and the skin underneath is new. Because the herbs stimulate the skin instead of dissolving it, many people whose skin reacts to acid peels tolerate this one well.

Karen uses it for acne and acne scarring, pigmentation, dull or rough skin, and fine lines. Deeper scarring usually takes a short series.

Five days to new skin. Book it for a quieter week and enjoy the result on day five.

    • You have a big event in the next week. Book it for afterwards.

    Why people choose this treatment

    • No acids or chemicals

Just dried herbs, massaged into your skin.

What the five days look like

    1. Day one

Karen massages the herbs in for around ten minutes and leaves them on, about an hour in the clinic all up. The skin feels warm and tight. You go home and keep it dry.

    2. Days two to four

The skin tightens, then starts to flake and peel. Don't pick at it. Wash gently and use only what Karen has given you.

    3. Day five

You come back for the vitamin mask, which calms and hydrates the new skin. Then strict sun protection for two weeks, and in Cairns that means a hat as well as sunscreen.

    Questions people ask

    Does the herbal peel hurt?

It's like a rough, warm scrub that feels tight afterwards. The tightness settles overnight.

    How much peeling is there?

Noticeable flaking on days three and four, much like peeling after sunburn. You can't hide it, so plan the week.

How many peels do I need?

One for a general refresh. Acne scarring or deep pigmentation usually takes three to five, about a month apart.

Can I do it in summer?

Yes, with strict sun protection for two weeks after. Karen will help you pick a good week.

Is it the same as a chemical peel?

No. A chemical peel uses acid to dissolve the surface of the skin. The herbal peel uses plant particles to prompt the skin to renew itself.

    What does it cost?

Karen quotes per peel, or per series if your skin needs more than one, at the free assessment. There's no obligation.
