How it works
Acne scar treatment starts with the kind of scar you have. There are shallow pits, deeper ice-pick marks, raised scars, and the red or brown stain that hangs around after a breakout. Each one responds to something a little different.
For most people the main treatment is the Original Herbal Peel. Karen massages a blend of dried herbs into the skin, and over the next five days the surface sheds. The new skin comes through more evenly, and the pitted texture softens a little more with each peel.
For the deepest scars, she may add a laser treatment between peels. She has been treating acne scarring for over 35 years.
Three to five peels, about a month apart. That's for most pitted scarring. Surface marks and discolouration often need only one.
Is it for me?
This treatment suits you if:
- You have pitting, uneven texture or discolouration left behind by acne.
- You still break out and want both treated.
- You can plan around the visible peeling days after each treatment.
Not suitable if:
- You've taken isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the last six months.
- You have active eczema, a rosacea flare or open sores in the area.
- You're pregnant. Karen is happy to see you afterwards.
Why people choose this treatment

What to expect
The peel
Karen massages the peel in for around ten minutes and leaves it on, about an hour in the clinic all up. The skin feels warm and tight afterwards. You go home and keep it dry that day.
Days two to five
The skin tightens over days two and three, then flakes and peels on days three and four. On day five you come back for a calming vitamin mask. The texture looks smoother straight away, and the deeper change shows over the following weeks as the new skin settles.
After each treatment
You'll need to keep the sun off your face for two weeks after each treatment, and Karen will show you how.

Can acne scars be removed completely?
Surface marks and discolouration often clear. Pitted scars soften and become less noticeable over a series of peels. Very deep ice-pick scars improve but don't go away.
How many treatments will I need?
One peel for discolouration and surface texture. Three to five peels about a month apart for pitted scarring.
Does it work on darker skin?
The herbal peel is used across a wide range of skin tones because it has no acids in it. Karen checks your skin at the assessment and sets the plan from there.
I still get breakouts. Can I have the peel?
Yes. The peel clears congestion, so it suits active acne too, unless the skin is broken or infected.
How is it different from a chemical peel or microneedling?
A chemical peel dissolves the surface with acid and microneedling punctures it. The herbal peel uses plant particles to prompt the skin to renew itself, with no acid and no needles.
What does it cost?
Karen quotes per peel or per series at the free assessment, once she has seen the scarring. There's no obligation.
